What you should know before buying cast aluminum patio furniture
You’ve decided to furnish your patio and after looking around have decided to buy cast aluminum patio furniture, which is relatively light compared to cast iron, is durable, won’t rust, and is very attractive.
But there are some things to consider and some actions to take when making your purchase that will ensure that your money is well-spent.
Measure your patio or deck, and compare against furniture measurements. You want the cast aluminum patio furniture you choose to fit the area where it will be used, with plenty of room for movement around where the furniture will be placed. Proportion is also important. Big and high bulky furniture will look out of place on a small deck.
Will the furniture be out in the weather? Cast aluminum does stand up to all kinds of weather well, but the cushions need to be put away when it’s going to be wet out, if the area in question isn’t protected from the weather. If you don’t have a convenient storage place for cushions, or your lifestyle makes cushion storage a bother, you might consider a furniture style that doesn’t require cushions.
Also, if you will be using these in the sun, some cast aluminum furniture has a special coating to keep the metal from getting too hot.
Will the furniture see light duty or heavy duty use? Though cast aluminum is reasonably strong, some of the lower priced lines have plastic fittings and couplings, which will not stand up to heavy duty use, such as kids who wiggle in chairs or a family member who’s weight is less than ideal. Make sure the cast aluminum furniture you choose is built strong enough for its intended use.
Does the furniture come assembled, or does it need assembly? Some patio furniture needs to be assembled. If you don’t have tools, or you are a klutz when it comes to putting things together and have no help to do so, then you might want to ask this question prior to purchase.
Will the furniture be used on a level surface or a somewhat uneven surface? If the area where you’re using your furniture is slightly uneven, you’ll want to buy tables that have leg levelers.
Taking some care to ask questions and compare features prior to purchase will ensure that you will enjoy your cast aluminum patio furniture for years to come.
