What you should know before buying a patio dining set

When looking at patio dining sets there are a few things you should consider prior to purchase.

• What is the size of the area where the dining set will be used, and how many people will routinely be using it?
• What type of use will the table and chairs see? Light duty or heavy duty?
• Are you the handy type, capable of light assembly? Or do you need things done for you?

Considering where the patio dining furniture will be used will help you make better decisions. If the dining set will be out in the weather, you may consider whether you want to be dragging cushions out of a garage or basement area every time you want to use it, or instead purchase a set with chairs that don’t need cushions, and that can stand up to wet and sun, and be easily wiped clean. If you will be using the set in a sunny area, you may want a set that includes a sun umbrella.

Measuring the area where you’ll be using the furniture and making sure there is plenty of room for the movement of chairs and for people to walk around the table will ensure future enjoyment. Tight fit will make everyone unhappy. Also, if you plan to use this area to entertain, you’ll want to seat as many as your space can comfortably accomodate.

Do you have children who wiggle in their chairs? Adults who are a bit over the optimum weight? If either of these conditions exist, you’re not going to be happy with a less durable patio dining set, even if the price is a bargain. To ensure years of good use, make sure the patio furniture you buy will be sturdy enough for its intended users.

Some patio furniture requires assembly. If you don’t have any tools, and you have all left thumbs and no one to help you, you might be happier purchasing patio furniture that doesn’t require assembly.
